In 1945, 50 nations sign the United Nations Charter, forming the United Nations.
The Berlin Airlift begins in 1948.

a pack of Wrigleys Gum becomes the first item with a bar code to be scanned and sold in a retail outlet. The pack eventually goes on display in the Smithsonian.
