Also On This Day...

in 1846 the Oregon Treaty establishes the border between Canada and the United States. While difficult to know for sure, this border is often hailed as the longest unguarded border, the longest uncontested border or in terms of time the longest unguarded, undisputed border.

Wat Tyler leads English peasants into London in 1381 after Richard II refuses to meet. London is plundered and burned. The next day Richard makes several concessions and agrees to end serfdom. On the 15th of June while meeting with Richard, Wat Tyler is killed by the mayor of London. In a stunning turn about the King calms the crowd by declaring that he is now head of their movement. He orders them home and later has all the leaders killed.
