July 17 Wrong Way Corrigan

On this day in history...

Corrigan files a flight plan to fly west across the United States in 1938. Upon takeoff he flies east across the Atlantic, completes the flight and gains his Wrong Way Corrigan
Disneyland Park opens in Anaheim California in 1955.
A docking in space between the Apollo and Soyuz spacecrafts occurs for the first time in 1975.


Also On This Day...

in 1955 day a lightning sets off an abandoned mine from the Battle of Messines in World War 1. The tons of explosives were placed to breach the German trenches and the decades later explosion results in no casualties except perhaps one cow.

June 7: Gandi Kicked Off The Train

On this day in history...

Spain and Portugal divide the new world between themselves in 1494.
The Battle of Messines Ridge commences in 1917 with several tunnels filled with explosive are detonated.
The Yorktown is sunk in the Battle of Midway in 1942, the only US carrier loss compared to 4 carriers lost to Imperial Japan.


And Also On This Day...

Gandi refuses to obey a segregation law in 1893. Gandi was working as a lawyer in South Africa and while taking a train he refused to leave a first class rail car. He was kicked off the train, the first act of civil disobedience on his part.
