draft riots break out in New York in 1863 as the Civil War drags on.
A White House aid reveals the existence of tapes in 1973 which will later be called the Nixon tapes.
The first Live Aid concert starts in 1985.
And Also On This Day...
the Hollywoodland sign is dedicated in 1923. Originally intended to advertise the housing development Hollywoodland, it becomes the icon of Hollywood and the land is dropped in a later renovation.
