May 28: Starting The First World War

On this day in history...

the Spanish Armada sails in 1588, determined to conquer England. Alan Turing submits "On Computable Numbers" in 1936. In 1987 Matthias Rust ends a 400 mile trip landing his Cessna in Red Square.


Also On This Day...

Colonel George Washington in 1754 leads as a British officer and annihilates a French and Indian force in what would later be called Jumonville Glen. The French officer Jumonville is killed but one of the French escapes and alerts a larger French force. The following defeat of Washington's force at Fort Necessity leads to Washington signing an admission which in turn leads to a wider war in Europe; The Seven Years War.
