Grover Cleveland in 1886 becomes the first president to marry in the Whitehouse.
Surveyor 1 lands on the moon in 1966 as the US continues to lag behind the Soviets in the space race. The Soviet probe landed months earlier.
Also On This Day...
the transport ship Tsar in 1919, leaves Economie. On board are the first dough boys to be withdrawn from the North Russian Front. Additional American withdrawals continued till August 5th. This started the closure of one theater of the allied intervention in Russia, a by product of the Great War and Communist Revolution in Russia.
